Spelthorne Spartans Badminton Club, in partnership with Spelthorne Council, Heathrow Community Fund and Tesco Bags of Help, are launching a fun new community project of Glow Badminton, enabled though the purchase of equipment to provide a new playing experience with UV lighting and music.
Introducing this project to all is a sporty charity event like no other. Play badminton in the dark with music, UV lighting and glow-in-the-dark shuttles, plus lots of UV war paint!
Taking place at Matthew Arnold Sports Centre in Staines-upon-Thames at 10am on Saturday 17 November, Glow Badders is pure badminton fun – all in aid of Children in Need!
With 50% of ticket sales going directly to Children in Need and collection buckets available on the day, this is a great event for the family to get together and raise some money.
Players must be at least 7 years old. There is no strobe lighting involved. We recommend buying tickets in advance.
The event costs £6 per player.
Spelthorne’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Cllr Maureen Attewell, said: “If you like badminton, you’ll love Glow Badders. It’s a great way to get fit and have some fun in a vibrant and unique setting. We hope lots of residents will come along and support Children in Need.”

More events are coming up, including a glow badminton Christmas event on Saturday 22 December and monthly sessions in 2019.

Dear Players and Parents,
Following the AGM we are making a few changes to ensure the club remains viable. We are moving to a later and shorter session time 6:30-8. Sessions will remain £5 so we can cover court and shuttle costs. Matches will be £5 at home, free away. We are shortening the summer term and will stop at the half term (attendance is traditionally very low during exams). To reassure you Richard and I run the sessions as volunteers and all the subs go towards essential running costs.
We also agreed at the AGM to move to a block payment method. We will retain the first session being free and the next two being pay as you play we will then expect players to make a firmer commitment. I am also hoping this will make numbers steadier and therefore also make the planning of each session easier.
To encourage club identity it would be good if players attended in their club shirts. Shirts are available, cost £10.
Autumn term 14 Weeks: £70 (£5 per session)
5th Sept – 12th December ( Christmas Session : bring family, friends and snacks) Half term: 24th October
